The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley. We couldn’t get any tickets to see it before Halloween so we waited to go in November and it was perfect. The night was cold but there wasn’t too many visitors. This festival is located at the Van Cortlandt Manor. It’s a display of more than 7,000 illuminated jack o’ lanterns, some are real pumpkins but lots of them are plastic. How do I know? I knocked on them during the visit. But even so, it was inspiring. I especially loved the jelly fish ones, I’ll probably make some for my garden next year. The T-rex was unbelievable. I wasn’t able to touch it, but I’m pretty sure it was made of plastic pumpkins, which makes sens when you need it to stay upright for 2 months and not become a squirrels lunch. Van Cortlandt Manor is located on the Hudson river, north of Sleepy Hollow, known as the setting of Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, the headless horseman. It sets the mood for the whole visit don’t you think? Van Cortlandt Manor is a 17th-century house and property built by the van Cortland family. I wish we could visit the house but It’s currently closed for renovation.
I hope you enjoyed this dazzling tour.
From Rye with love.
