The Hamilton Grange house
Finally! I got to see the inside of Alexander Hamilton’s house in Harlem! I tried to go see it 2 and 1/2 years ago but it was still closed because of Covid.
Now it’s open and even if it was only the first floor (Office, parlor, dinning room) and the little museum in the basement, it was a great to discover this historic home.
It’s also fun to learn that the house was relocated twice and I found a little video of the second move in 2008 with modern technology. It’s already impressive in 2008, but thinking that in 1889, the first time they moved it, they only had horses to do this herculean task It’s hard to believe!

Astor Row
If you feel like a little walk, 25 min away from Hamilton Grange, you can take a look at Astor Row, on the south side of West 130th Street, between Fifth and Lenox Avenues. In contrast to typical Manhattan architecture, the three-story brick, single-family houses have an unconventional design, each dwelling is set back from the street and features both front and side yards, with beautiful greenery, a rarity in the city. Each of them also have a wooden porch, which add a touch of charm to their unique facades. It was fun to find the little sculptures in some of the front yards.
I hope you enjoyed the photos!
